Extended Type affiliation fails validation during enrollment

Three (3) extended types for affiliation (CO Person Role) were defined. An enrollment flow to add a CO Person Role to an existing CO Person record was configured with an Affiliation (CO Person Role) Attribute (no default, modifiable, and not hidden).

During the enrollment flow choosing one of the extended types for affiliation in the form and then submitting the form resulted in the input being rejected and the form rendered again with the affiliation input highlighted in red and the error "COU is required".

Note that it is the extended type for affiliation that fails to validate but the error message is "COU is required".

The form can be submitted and the enrollment flow completes successfully when the value chosen for affiliation is not one of the extended type values.
