"Mapping" search type assumes case-insensitive attribute

Looking at the "Mapping" search type SQL logic and example mappings, it expresses an assumption that mappings will always be applied to a case-insensitive attribute (examined in lower case).

I have not thought of any case where you might want an attribute mapping lookup on a case-sensitive attribute, but if this is desired behavior then the documentation should reflect the requirement for a case-insensitive attribute and that query/value pairs should always be specified in lower case.
